Reviews
When adapting popular manga series into anime, it is vital that the animation studio can bring them to life – an inexperienced studio can ruin an adaptation altogether.
Golden Kamuy is no exception, as Geno Studio does an exceptional job of bringing Satoru Noda’s manga to life through vibrant scenery, memorable character designs, and atmospheric animation.
The narrative takes place during early 20th-century Hokkaido and follows former soldier Sugimoto and young Ainu Asirpa as they search for an 800 million Yen treasure hidden somewhere around Hokkaido – moving through prison cells, Ainu settlements, and company towns in search of this wealth.
Along the way, they share Ainu hunting and cooking knowledge among themselves. Meals play an integral part in this show as meals serve as an opportunity to connect, make new friends, and gain more knowledge of Ainu culture.
