A member of my on the web network is aspect of a new phenomenon – pole dancing parties for ladies. “It is empowering,” she insists. A news function for the “Pussycat Dolls” burlesque show at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas claims the show is “empowering for all women” who want to be a pussycat inside.
Here’s my concern: Why is it the only socially sanctioned way for a woman to be extra “empowered” is to “get her sexy on?” Is the only acceptable type of empowerment to “release your inner slut?” Is that what we’ve gained through all the years of feminism?
I am not a prude. Healthy, fun sex in a committed, monogamous partnership is a superb point. Amazing! But I’d like to reside in a world where there are other acceptable strategies for women to be empowered, as well. Truth is speaking up and saying our thoughts honestly and straight is a lot a lot more “out of the box” than prancing and shimmying about a pole for millions of girls.
Final week there was good hue and cry on “The View” as Rosie O’Donnell and Elizabeth Hasselbeck squared off. Elizabeth did not back down this time. The clip of that interview was replayed on FOX, CNN and other networks for days with commentators startled that a fairly, small blonde could argue so forcefully and successfully against massive, undesirable Rosie.
The subsequent day at NBC Studios – someone took a magic marker and drew a moustache on pictures of Elizabeth. Why is it okay for women to “empower themselves” by participating in sexual “male approved” activities like pole dancing?
Or, empower oneself! Acquire all new skin care! What the heck, seriously empower yourself and get Botox(TM) injections!!!
C’mon.
Girls are judged – by both guys and females. Frequently it’s not okay when we opt for to speak up and say our piece – whether it has to do with our opinions on politics or selling in a constructive, win-win way the advantages of your solution or service and how you can assist your prospects.
As the author of a popular book written for females household-primarily based business enterprise owners to aid them have far more fun, feel a lot more confident and make a lot far more funds I’ve talked with thousands of females who love their organization – but hate obtaining the word out. dental whitening is not just the “how-tos” of marketing and selling – it is also about feeling empowered and entitled to say their piece and ask for what they want. Hinting and innuendo is fine in your individual life – but it will by no means cut it in organization. You have to ask.
I have advertising and marketing mentoring customers who’ve struggled with their individual finances and their businesses since they felt entirely unsupported, uncomfortable and un-empowered speaking up for themselves and asking for what they want. They do not really feel empowered adequate to guide and direct a conversation – which is important in enterprise to sell something.
They want to create a much better life for themselves and frequently for their families – the American dream. Having said that, they had been told to ask for anything is not excellent, to count on something is not very good to speak up and speak your worth is not good. Who’s empowering these women so they can realize their goals and aspirations? (That is a significant component of my advertising and marketing mentoring for some of my clients, btw.) Dancing about a pole isn’t going to get them there.
Pole dancing and burlesque is fine. It can create some real spice in the bedroom with your man – a superior factor. And I fully grasp its superior physical exercise. But all the attractive moves, feather boas and seven inch stilettos in the globe won’t support her pay the bills, save for her youngsters college or her retirement – unless she desires to develop into a specialist stripper.
